One Weekend in NYC? 7 Things You MUST Do
One weekend is quite a short timeframe to squeeze in the highlights of New York City...
While it’s hard for us to tell you exactly what to do or where to eat, we can provide you with seven categories of things you must do on a New York Trip, even if you only have 3 days to do it! 🙌
It's a simplistic guide (and our most popular podcast episode), but it can help you hone in on creating the perfect itinerary of activities for your trip to New York.
Read (or listen) now. 👇
10 Oldest NYC Bars - History + Beer Unite 🤝
A wise man once said, “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.” That wise man was, in fact, NOT Benjamin Franklin.
Ol Benjamin actually said, “Behold the rain which descends from heaven upon our vineyards; there it enters the roots of the vines, to be changed into wine; a constant proof that God loves us, and loves to see us happy” and that quote was then paraphrased to reference beer. The more you know. 🧠
And as my Grandma Betty would say, “At any rate”..
NYC boasts a rich history, featuring bars that have endured through the ages, including a spot we’ve previously mentioned, Fraunces Tavern, that dates back to 1762.
Browse Timeout’s list of NYC’s 10 oldest bars where you can pair foamy beverages with a slice of yore. Read it here.
Our Vote for the Best Observation Deck - The Edge
While most observation decks in the city offer a similar experience, we think The Edge in Hudson Yards may be the best!
You get expansive views of downtown (seen above), Central Park, and almost all of the other observation decks.
You can’t go wrong - Plus, the glass floor is worth the cost of admission.
Love Severance? Check Out Two Filming Spots in NYC
While this isn’t a newsletter about the TV show Severance (unfortunately), the ever-popular show boasts many connections to New York and even NYC specifically.

The unbelievable goat room (Mammalian’s Nurturable) scene? That was filmed at Marine Park Golf Course in Brooklyn.
And the Perpetuity Wing scene’s replica of Kier Eagan’s house? That’s actually the 1877 Gilded Age Glenview House at the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers.
PS- If you haven’t watched Severance, stop reading this email and binge the whole thing. 🫡

Events We Love This Week (February 12-19, 2025)
In the city this week? Here are some fun events we’re keeping an eye on.
The Gates Augmented Reality Experience in Central Park
On a recent walk with our dog in Central Park, I found a new sign near The Boathouse. A tall, standalone alert with a QR code. I love a QR code in the wild!
After scanning the QR code, I wasn’t still entirely sure about what was being presented here… Some augmented reality experience about gates?
Little did I know… 👇
In February 2005, Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s The Gates was an actual art experience (no phone needed) laid out in Central Park.
It included 7,503 orange gates with flowing fabric spread out across 23 miles of Central Park. This behemoth of an art endeavor garnered over 4 million visitors to the park!
They’re returning The Gates to commemorate, but only in augmented reality form, in Central Park from February 12, 2025, until March 23, 2025.
Here’s a map of where it’ll be. So, head out, scan the QR code, and tell us what you think!
Ask a F*ckboy - February 15, 9:30 PM
The tagline is simple..
Girls tell unhinged stories. A panel of f*ckboys weighs in.
That’s a comedy show worth seeing! Get tickets (or watch the live stream) here.
Voodoo Doll Making Workshop - February 13 & 15, Multiple Times
Because sometimes Valentine’s Day is more of a day of.. vengeance? 👿
Daytime DJ Dance Party for Kids 🎛️
The slogan for this daytime kid-friendly event is “A dance party where parents relax and kids take it to the max.” 🪩
As a living room DJ, I absolutely LOVE this idea! Families with kids often look for ways to get out of the house and connect with like-minded peers.. what better way than this?!
The first two installations of “A Parently Kidding” sold out quickly and were a blast, according to attendees! A 3rd party will take place on March 1.
NYC History: Horse Manure Galore
Many like to complain about the traffic in New York (myself included), but it’s probably better than the mess left by horses..
According to some sources, the Great Horse Manure Crisis of 1894 kicked off due to an overwhelming amount of manure on NYC streets.
Some estimates had it at around 3 million pounds of manure on the city streets daily!
Well, how did they fix the problems associated with all that manure in the streets? They didn’t really.. Until cars came around.
Makes you grateful to be alive today, right? 💩
This Week’s You’ll Have to Check It Out - Terra Blues
We’re a sucker for live music, especially live jazz. 🎷
Terra Blues in The Village may take the cake for our favorite jazz spot in the city. The staff is friendly, the music is energetic, and the drinks are top-notch.
You’ll pay a cover charge most nights, but the cost is worth the experience.
They also boast an extensive whiskey list and some delicious house cocktails.
Plus, the decor in the bathroom is some of my favorite in the city.. 👇
Live music goes on throughout the night, and you can usually snag a table if you’re willing to wait.
Terra Blues is on Bleecker Street in The Village. Check it out here!
Enjoy your Valentine’s Day,
Ashley & Devin from Better Together Here 💕
