4th of July in NYC - Fireworks, Activities & More
The 4th of July has always been a favorite holiday of ours, and experiencing it in New York City makes it that much better.
Fireworks, BBQs, rooftop parties, and numerous activities make this day truly epic.
Here are some ideas for your NYC 4th of July. 👇
Rooftop Parties
The best way to see fireworks is from a high vantage point, and rooftop parties combine great views with great vibes!
There are loads of rooftop parties, but be sure to snag tickets ASAP if you’re interested.
If you want to try other rooftop bars in the city, we recommend calling ahead to verify if a reservation or ticket is required.
Boat Cruises
While we’ve heard the boat experience on the 4th of July can be chaotic, viewing the fireworks from the harbor (where the main fireworks are launched) can be iconic. Although we haven’t done a boat cruise on the 4th, we’ve done it at other times and LOVED it.
There are a few boat tour options, some of which include open bars, food, and live music.
Again, book ASAP before spots fill up.
Coney Island
Coney Island is its own vibe. And that vibe peaks around the 4th of July.
You’ve got the hot dog eating contest, beach lounging, and a fireworks show launched from the beach around 9:45 pm.
Subway Series
Fitting after our most recent two podcast episodes, covering the Mets & Yankees (more on that later in this email), the Subway Series is set to kick off this weekend.
It’s an iconic rivalry taking place on an iconic weekend.
Hell yeah! ⚾️
Fireworks Viewing
The main Macy’s Fireworks Show will be launching from barges near the southernmost end of Manhattan this year.
While we don’t venture into the ultra-crowded and hectic “designated viewing areas,” there are loads of great places to see the fireworks.
Again, rooftops are your friend on a night like this. 👍
For us? We almost always take Citi Bikes down the West Side Highway bike path and watch the fireworks as we ride. We may stop for a bit and take it in, but biking around as the fireworks are going off gives you a variety of viewing experiences in one go.
Keep in mind as well that the main Macy’s fireworks are just one option. New Jersey often has its own events & fireworks shows, there’s the Coney Island option, and others beyond that.
Note: If you have a dog, please keep them safe on the 4th. Here’s a handy article I wrote.
NY Yankees Game Guide
Pinstripes, deep history, and a winning franchise make the New York Yankees’ gameday experiences a must-do on a NYC trip.
There is no bad seat at Yankee Stadium. We've sat in the nosebleeds, lower section, and outfield and had a great viewing experience each time.. So, price is likely not a limiting factor!
Our most recent podcast episode breaks down everything you need to know about heading to a Yankees game.
You’ll Have to Check It Out - Kafana
The beauty of New York City is accidentally stumbling upon an absolute gem of a restaurant, like Kafana.
Kafana boasts authentic Serbian food in the East Village. 🇷🇸
Every dish was delightful, the prices were relatively fair, and the outdoor seating on a warm Summer day wrapped it all together nicely.
Certainly try some orange wine, their spinach pie, and the baklava for dessert.
See ya next week,
