Events We Love This Week: August 19-26 2026

In the city this week? Here are some fun events we’re keeping an eye on.

Musical Chairs- August 20 @ 6 pm in Bryan Park

There’s nothing quite like a game where one person gets left out to stir up memories of elementary school trauma drama..

Tomorrow, hundreds will compete in Bryant Park in an epic game of musical chairs for prizes, free t-shirts, and bragging rights.

Check-in begins at 5:30 pm and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Dog & Owner Lookalike Contest - August 26 @ 5 pm

The dog-looks-like-their-human phenomenon is well-documented and something I look for every day on the streets of NYC.

Dogfish Head brewery is teaming up with Big Boi of Outkast to host their inaugural Dog & Owner Lookalike Contest on August 26th.

There will be photo ops, giveaways, dog-friendly experiences and, of course, some beer.

It’s free, but you should reserve a spot if you plan to attend.

You’ll Have to Check It Out - Gebhard’s Beer Culture

We don’t often pull repeats for the You’ll Have to Check It Out segment, but our vote for the best beer spot on the Upper West Side deserves a second look.

With an extensive beer list, tasty snacks and bites, and friendly staff, Gebhard’s Beer Culture is a must-visit spot on the UWS. But beyond the beer..

The vibes are immaculate. Top-notch music selection AND more often than not, nostalgic videos playing on the TVs.

A previous visit included us watching Jaws in its entirety, only with subtitles. 🦈

Gebhard’s Beer Culture also has some great specials. On nights that the Beacon Theatre has a show, you can get a beer & a shot for $10. It’s amazing!

NYC Pre-Trip Checklist: 7 Things to Do Before You Arrive

The Upper East Side of New York City is home to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (you can book a guided tour here), phenomenally expensive homes, and a lively restaurant and bar scene.

While exploring the MET and all it has to offer is certainly the highlight, we’ve got you covered on what to do before & after your museum experience. 👇

This quick guide covers some of our favorite spots on the Upper East Side, including:

  • A coffee shop to hit before the museum

  • Unbelievably delicious restaurant options

  • A solid pub with great happy hour deals
